PRESIDENT - Fiona Kao - president@fitzmcr

When asked, "Where do you come from?" I generally give a very long answer. "I was born in Malaysia, grew up in Taiwan, studied in an American school, studied English literature in university, and now see the UK as my home." I am in my second year PhD. I work on female saints from the early Christian period to the early modern period. I am interested in seeing how religion affects people especially the behaviour of women even though I am not too particular about Christianity myself. My ambition is to make Fitzwilliam MCR the most fun, friendly, and inclusive College in Cambridge.

VICE PRESIDENT - Irina Zhalybina - vice-president@fitzmcr

I am a part III student, studying mathematics. I am particularly interested in mathematical statistics as applied to the financial industry. I have already enjoyed the challenge of working with research and analysis in regards to trading data. Also I was lucky to meet one Fitz graduate from Russia who inspired me to study here at Cambridge. I think Fitz is the wonderful place with a beautiful MCR and very friendly people!

SECRETARY - Samuli Siikavirta - secretary@fitzmcr

I have been a Fitzbilly since 2005 when I came here from Finland to do my BA. One could say that I have come to know the College quite well! Now, seven years later, I am doing my PhD on the theology and ethics of St Paul (and for that, Fiona calls me her moral voice...). As secretary of the MCR Committee, I hope to be making a small contribution by giving something back to the College that I have come to appreciate more and more for its unpretentious and supportive character. Drop me a line if you have any questions or suggestions!

TREASURER - Jasdeep Bhambra - treasurer@fitzmcr

From organising my cereal at a young age to managing numbers (on an MMath at Sheffield) and now ordering eight unruly men about the river, I feel like I'm well qualified to serve my purpose as college Treasurer. When I'm not uncovering the hidden mysteries of dementia at Addenbrooke's, I'm either coxing M1 for Fitz or sampling the various eateries of Cambridge. Although you might not hear from me as often as the Social Secs, it might be useful to know that my nagging emails regarding finance may be overlooked if one were to send wine and chocolate. However, that's not to say that such gifts would not be unwelcomed in any case.

SOCIAL SECRETARY - Antonia Zachariou - social-secs@fitzmcr

I am a 1st year PhD student, studying Psychology and Education at the Faculty of Education, focusing on children’s’ self-regulation. As you‘ll get to know me, you’ll realise how ironic this is! But again, momentary lack of self-regulation is not too bad for a social sec. This is my second year at Fitz, having done an MPhil here previously. You just have to make sure that you enjoy every moment of your life in Cambridge. If you are at Fitz, trust me, you are definitely at the right place for this. Any ideas, about events you’d like us to organize, are more than welcome!

SOCIAL SECRETARY - Frieder Haenisch - social-secs@fitzmcr

My strong interest in Formal Swaps with other Colleges lead to the decision to become a social secretary for the MCR. Also I support the College as an active member if the Fitzwilliam Boat Club. I joined the Fitzwilliam College in Michaelmas term 2011 as a first year PhD student in Biotechnology at the Cambridge Centre for Neuropsychiatric Research. My work contributes to the discovery of a biomarker panel for bipolar disorder which could lead to a improved diagnostic outcome. The project if focused on high throughput proteom techniques such as LC-MS and flow cytometry as well as bioinformatics and systems biology.

SOCIAL SECRETARY - Mehdi Golozar - social-secs@fitzmcr

DEVELOPMENT OFFICER - John Mueller - development@fitzmcr

My most recent publication was a chapter on the role of provincial retailing in the rise of the extreme Right in the German Empire for the University of London and I have lectured on the forced sale of Jewish property during the Third Reich for the Universität München (LMU). During my own presidency of the MCR I noticed that former post-graduate members of Fitz wanted to contribute to college life, just like ex-undergrads do. My role as development officer is to act as a go-between for all you members of the MCR that have left.

INTERNATIONAL OFFICER - Nenad Medic - international@fitzmcr

If Fiona is the Party Queen, then I am the Party King. I am also doing a PhD. In metabolic science. I investigate obesity in the context of hedonism and pleasure. Therefore, I try to avoid work overload as it might end up being counterproductive in my case. A commitment of organizing great Fitz social events seems to do the trick. (I am even wittier in person.)

INTERNATIONAL OFFICER - Samuel Burns - international@fitzmcr

I am an MPhil student studying Egyptology at the Division of Archaeology. I focus on interregional interaction during the late bronze age, with a special focus on the northern Levant (modern Lebanon and coastal Syria). Outside of academia, my interests include watching sports (I've never yet found a sport I couldn't watch) and music (mostly rock, from classic rock to indie). I'm looking forward to keeping Fitzwilliam the best international college in Cambridge!

TECHNICAL OFFICER - Greg Chadwick - technical@fitzmcr

I study Computer Architecture at the Computer Lab where I'm currently a 4th year PhD student. My research is looking at manycore architectures and using FPGA based emulation platforms to simulate them. This is my 7th year at Fitz having done a 3 year undergraduate degree here previously.

UNDERGRADUATE LIASON - James Richardson - UGLO@fitzmcr

As a 4th year aeronautical engineering student, technically an interloper in the MCR, but very much looking forward to using my 3 years' experience as a Fitz undergraduate in my role as undergraduate liaison officer. Have been infrequently sighted wearing a barbershop boater, in the Chapel with the choir, on a pair of skis, and (very occasionally) with slightly outlandishly coloured hair...

WOMENS' OFFICER - Allegra Fryxell - womens@fitzmcr

I'm an MPhil student studying Modern European History in my first year at Cambridge (although I intend to continue to the PhD). My focus is on Egyptomania and the reception of the ancient world in Britain during the postwar era (1920s). My other interests are 18th-19th century French political culture and 19th-20th century Hungarian nationalisms. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about living in Cambridge as an international student, would like to gossip about history, or would like to plan an event involving the MCR Ladies! I'm usually around the history faculty, the UL, and the Fitz Library. Otherwise, I'm easily reached via Facebook or email!

ACCOMMODATION OFFICER - Deepak Venkateshvaran - accomodation@fitzmcr

I'm a PhD student at the Cavendish Laboratory. I conduct experimental research on heat transport in organic semiconductors. As the accommodation officer at Fitz, I help organize and run the annual Fitzwilliam MCR Housing Ballot. During the year, please feel welcome to drop me a message should you have suggestions on how to make improvements to your overall experience at Fitzwilliam College.

GREEN OFFICER - Ed Pickering - green@fitzmcr

I’m a first year PhD student in Materials Science, specialising in modelling the solidification of steels. I completed my undergraduate studies at Fitz and it’s a great place to study and socialise. I’m passionate about green issues and making meaningful changes which are backed up by some reliable numbers. Feel free to email me with suggestions for new green initiatives. and keep recycling folks! (also, try to eat less beef!)
